Why JoinBecause together we make a difference. We served side by side in times of war; brothers and sisters in arms. Today we continue to serve our military, fellow veterans and their families. Membership in the American Legion offers many benefits that include involvement in community programs, a voice in Washington DC, investment in children's activities, education, and camaraderie. Of course, our main focus is for veteran’s rights and their families; which is why we continue to lobby in Washington for veterans, current service men and women, and Americanism. We might have said this before but it’s worth repeating, “The American Legion is the largest veteran’s organization”.
The American Legion provides life-changing assistance and guidance for veterans, military personnel, their families and communities in thousands of ways every day around the world. Help to those who need it come in the form of personal assistance, cash grants, donated goods, disaster relief, labor, networking, volunteerism and advocacy.
Eligibility
If you have served honorably for just one day during any eligible war eras or are on active duty today then you can become a Legionnaire with the Pennsylvania American Legion.
If you have served federal active duty in the United States Armed Forces since December 7, 1941, and have been honorably discharged or are still serving - you are eligible for membership in The American Legion!
*Because eligibility dates remain open, all active duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible to join The American Legion at this time, until the date of the end of hostilities as determined by the government of the United States.
**U.S. Merchant Marine eligible only from December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946 (WWII).

If You Need HelpVeterans don’t have to stand alone in the in their battle for benefits and medical care. The Department Service Officers will help veterans and family members weed through the paperwork and bureaucracy of government in order to get the benefits and medical care deserved. The American Legion department service officers (DSO) offer free advice and guidance for veterans who need the services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Additionally, Pennsylvania has 5 offices across the state to assist veterans; Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Wilkes-Barre, Erie and Harrisburg. The DSO’s are accredited representatives responsible for providing assistance and representation in any claim for VA benefits. They have specialized training and experience that contribute to a thorough knowledge of VA regulations and instructions, and not to mention, they are familiar with the broad spectrum of VA programs and operations. Our service officers regularly participate in workshops, seminars and conference to upgrade and enhance their skills.

The DMVA PA VetConnect objectives are to determine the needs of veterans and their beneficiary, find resources that meet those needs, and connect veterans with those resources.
